Time-traveling RPG experience

Reverse: 1999 is a free-to-play role-playing game from Bluepoch Co., Ltd. This features turn-based tactical gameplay as you travel across various eras and save other Arcanists, talented individuals at risk of being erased. It features impressive character designs in anime-style artwork, a wide cast of characters, and an immersive storyline–ticking all the checkboxes of a gacha game.

The graphics are on point and the soundtrack is well-made, making Reverse: 1999 an addictive gameplay to be enjoyed solo or with friends. As a gacha title, however, expect random lottery elements to play a significant part, much like Azur Lane Crosswave.

Hop into different eras and save Arcanists

In Reverse: 1999, you play as the Timekeeper. You observe different periods of time, particularly those after the so-called Storm, a temporal anomaly first observed in the titular year. Now, with your computer-controlled companion Sonetto, you start to travel to other Storm-infested areas and rescue other Arcanists — individuals similar to mages and wizards with their unique abilities — from being erased from the timeline.

In this game, you form a party and complete missions, often involving fighting monsters from the Storm. Combat is turn-based and mostly revolves around casting spells. Aside from the main story, there are also other game modes to keep you hooked. The Wilderness, for example, allows you to build and design your own island. You establish a base for your Arcanists as well as generating passive rewards for you.

As a gacha game, however, you will definitely feel the advantages of making in-app purchases. Aside from materials and resources, completing missions and tasks also rewards you with lottery tickets for the draw. These are limited, however, and the nature of the game will definitely pull you toward purchasing battle passes and in-game packs for a better chance to unlock the Arcanists immediately.

A run-of-the-mill gacha game

Gacha games are known for addictive gameplay, often spurred by an immersive storyline and a wide cast of characters, and Reverse: 1999 has both. It features a time-traveling element as the background to the story and the different features of the game, adding depth and setting it apart from other games in the RPG subgenre. If you’re new to this, just be careful of the addictive gacha aspect and you should be good.
